I never used to notice it, but now I see it all the time...

Why do text, pictures and lines always seem to slope upwards from left to right on websites? It makes everything look crooked.

Even the Internet Explorer toolbar looks narrower at one end than the other.

I hate it and would like to know if I am the only one who notices? And does anyone have the explanation?

Why did my index file transfer to my other angelfire web page?
Mood:  down
Topic: HTML Questions

Can anyone help me understand what I did to make my index file from one angelfire web site override to my other angelfire web site?

I had both index files open on 2 TABS in internet explorer; I thought it was a convenient way to view both index files without having to log-off and log-in for each web site.

However, something must have been set in motion because all of a sudden my index files were identical and there was no way to go back.

I had to do over the second web page HTML etc.

I would love to understand what I actually did to cause this problem.

One thing for sure - I will NEVER open both index files on tabs again.

The really weird thing was that I could access the photos etc. even though my directory did not have the photos - the photos were in the original directory in the other web page.???

Hope I'm describing this correctly - very confusing to me. Thanks for your help anyone?

Help! I Can't get .swf to play on page
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: HTML Questions

My html works offline (I've inserted the swf object) but the object doesn't appear when accessed through Angelfire. I've 'ftp'ed the html and swf files to the correct locations (I'm fairly certain). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

viewing css on web shell
Mood:  a-ok

 Hi all,

(RE: Angelfire Webshell)

If you have ever tried to view your css via the web shell it appears that it is not possible.  I keep a copy of my current css on my desktop and when I want to change it I just upload and re-write,  but this is hardly ideal.  I would like some way to view my css via my webshell,

any suggestions or short of changing suppliers, is it something I just have to live with ??  cheers in advance.

FTP Download
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: Wondering about FTP...

I'd like to make a duplicate copy of my website on my hard drive including the directory structure... I have tried using FileZilla to do this and I wasn't even able to connect to Angelfire using my id and password... I have also tried doing FTP from Internet Explorer... I WAS able to connect using the following 'ftp://<user>:<password>@www.angelfire.com' and was able to see my root directory and all it's contents... however, when I try to copy them down to my PC, it keeps failing... also, I am unable to access any of my subdirectories below the root...

Is this something Angelfire just will not let you do???... is there something I'm not doing???... does anyone know of another way to try???... at this point, I'm all ears and willing to listen to all ideas...

Thanks...

I'm not sure when this started happening, but when I try to view my webpage, it immediately redirects to a page about Webtraxx. I can no longer access my webpage. It is a free website, I am not a paid member, does anyone know what is causing this problem and what can I do about it?

Hi Everyone

Is there a way to post the links in your blog so they would open in a new window instead of the same window?

Thanks in advanced.

Using FTP

I want to download my website files from the webshell for backup purposes.

I'm not at all familiar with ftp and am having trouble using it.

I have the Firefox browser 'Fireftp' add on, but even though I have tried various combinations of the Angelfire url I can't seem to be able to connect so as to access my website files.

Can anyone tell me what form of address I should be actually typing into the 'account'  so as to link me up with my files?

Thanks for any advice.

Official: Angelfire/Tripod/Lycos are NOT shutting down
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: The Stranglers
Topic: News

Howdy, Angelfire Members.

Some of you have expressed concern that your Angelfire account is going away. That's not the case at all. Angelfire, Tripod and Lycos are NOT shutting down. Your free/paid sites are fine.

It's Lycos UK/Tripod UK that have announced their shutdown. The UK company licensed the Lycos/Tripod name and some technology years ago, but has NOTHING to do with the original/core Lycos/Tripod/Angelfire that we run here in snowy Waltham, MA, USA.

(Yeah, I know it sounds a bit strange...just think of it like those step-cousins who share the same last name, but that you never talk to, and have no idea what they're up to.)

The news media picked up on the Lycos UK/Tripod UK press release, and didn't do their fact-checking about the relation, or lack thereof, with the original/core Lycos/Tripod/Angelfire.

So, again, Angelfire, Tripod and Lycos aren't going anywhere. In fact, the team and I are working hard to get out some exciting new features and upgrades. We're in Alpha testing now, and should have something for you to see in late Feb./early March. Ditto for Lycos Domains, and the domains you may have bought through Tripod or Angelfire. All's fine there, new stuff coming soon.

If you happen to have a site on Tripod UK that's getting shutdown, feel free to FTP-down your contents from that site, save them to your desktop, and then upload them to your Angelfire or Tripod.com site here. While we don't necessarily support all of the same technologies as the UK version currently, just sit tight.

Thanks for your ongoing support of Angelfire, Tripod and Lycos here in the USA (and globally across the World Wide Web). We've been around a long time, thanks to you, and we intend to be around for a lot longer.

Thanks.

Jamie Riehle,

Director of Product Infrastructure/Tripod/Angelfire

Lycos, Inc.

Virus on Web Site

Customers running the anti-virus software Avast are reporting a Virus alert on their web site. Initial investigation appears to confirm that the virus is not originating from Lycos, but we are continuing to gather more information in order to make a more complete diagnosis. If you are experiencing a Virus alert on your Angelfire site, please submit a support ticket at help.lycos.com and provide us with your browser type/version, operating system and anti-virus software.

Thanks -

Lycos Support

Dates defaulting to January 1
Mood:  not sure

I just updated a page on my paid (neon) Angelfire site and Google says I got over 20 pageviews of the same page yesterday, January 6. Yet it shows January 1 as the last day the hit counter clicked and the same date as when it was last updated. Older pages and hitcounters show various dates but anything since January 1, 2009 stops at that date. Did you guys get hit with some sort of Y2K problem 9 years late?
