Take a walk down memory lane...
This really brings back some memories (for me, but probably not for you). Here, thanks to archive.org, we have Angelfire's old "History of Angelfire" site. It's so terribly out of date now, but still a good read.

http://web.archive.org/web/20010208102520/angelfire.lycos.com/doc/history/index.html

Marvel at our stylish black Lycos headerbar! Gasp at our overuse of blue! Be amazed that we haven't changed the logo very much recently!

The old AF staff pages:

The thing that surprises me looking at this stuff is the tongue-in-cheek style we did a lot of the stuff in... I wonder if we should be injecting more personality into the site these days. Amazingly, legos are still involved. (But the giant Power Puff Girl has now been replaced by a stuffed giraffe named Raffi. He was willing to work for minimum wage.)

I hope you enjoy those links. We might update and repost some of this stuff eventually.

What do you think?

LOL. I enjoyed the links and liked the tongue-in-cheek approach of the old days. Some of that is still apparent on the AF default 404 error pages. One thing I'm certain of- You (and Raffi) deserve a raise :).

Wow. That was before me. I started on Angelfire in 1999 but it was quite some time after that before I became involved in the communities. (And there was also a gap for a while when I worked on Tripod exclusively.)

When was that board set up?

I think in 1996 or 1997, then we had the big wipe out that was right before they sold to whos who.

Very interesting material. Web-Archive
is an amazing resource.

I have been an Angelfire member since 1998.

I notice on the old message board from 1998,
the questions haven't really changed all that much.

The logo still follows the same general principles.

I also enjoy the humorous comments on the A/F 404
URLs.

I think that the biggest change, is in the over-all
smooth operation, with little or no downtime to
speak of...and, of course, the aggressive advertising,
which was non-existant in 1998.

Here is a couple of banners from early 2000, dealing
with the new pop-up window phenomenon:

All in good fun :)

Those were the days, we were big group, everything was new try to figure out how things work, there was a war between geocites and angelfire members we use to raid each other boards to cause trouble just for fun.

It was fun and funny, they found out that if they use the <blink> tag without closing it, it will make every thing after that tag blink. those days almost everybody was using netscape 3.
