Blog posting
When I test my blogs, I cannot post or edit my open blogs from the blogs themselves. I can only edit from within the webshell.
What might be going on?
This might be why no one has posted:(

I think you have to make it a public blog.

Heather- I tried to post a comment in the blog entry above. It went without a hitch. Is this a blog you're having trouble with? I also posted a test entry after subscribing to your blog. It didn't post, but I'll assume you opted to moderate your blog so it will not post until you approve it. If you're not sure if the blog is moderated or not, you can check that in the blog control panel's "change settings" option.

If you're wondering why no one posts to your blog one reason may be this: the above blog is so wide it can't be read in the most common monitor resolutions without L/R scrolling. I had to torque my resolution to 1280x960, the highest I could get, before I could read the text without a L/R scroll. That doesn't mean I lost the L/R scroll entirely. I would have still had to horiz. scroll to find the link to post to your blog because your template places them on the far upper right.

I don't know too many visitors using smaller but commonly used monitor resolutions that will take the time to horizontally scroll to read web page text. That's labor intensive, tiring, and just too much bother for most.

As far as I can figure the reason for such a wide blog page is because of a very long URL added as text that is pushing your blog page way out of width in the entry above.

Can I suggest you rewrite that long link without the URL added to the text description? Just leave the word "source" or some other short words to act as the visual clue to the link. You will still be using the long URL, of course, when asked for the URL of the web page you want to link to. But that will be hidden in the a href tag of the html and will not actually display on your page. Replace any other long link "word" in the same way if you find the blog page is still too wide.

If you have a large monitor with high resolution yourself, I'd also suggest switching to more commonly used resolutions such as 1024x768 or 800x600 just to see what many of your visitors might be seeing. If you keep web stats that follow resolutions, design for the smallest resolution with enough users that seems worthwhile.

Dalleh, I saw that one, too and there's a third I didn't visit. Heather, my comment about the above blog is that there are no entries so it looks rather uninviting. It might take someone with a very adventurous spirit to be the first to test the waters and post. Dalleh, you go first :).

Also- want to take back something I said about the other blog and about moderating in general. On further look, moderating only applies to comments, not entries... and when I revisited your blog my test entry was there. Must have needed to clear my cache to view it. The first blog I saw earlier was open and not moderated.

I just set this up today(waiting for my daughter to decide how she wants it set up) and tested my other blogs again, without any results.
Thanks for all of your work.
I still cannot post on my own blogs unless I go into my webshell and a few friends have also been unable to post.
We all keep getting the user and password page clicking back to us.

Do you mean post a "comment" or an "entry"? There's a big difference between posting the two. You must be logged into AF before posting an "entry".... which means you must have an account at least at AF, I believe. An entry is automatically "signed" with your AF membername by default and there is no other way of identifying an entry poster other than that. So you must be logged in first.

Log-in status should be visible in your blog sidebar. You should also be able to log into the blog from there. That done, you'll be able to post an "entry" at will as long as you remain logged into AF.

Anyone *should* be able to post a "comment" to an "entry" whether logged in or out, even if they are not members of AF, at least to the best of my understanding. I may be wrong but do know I don't need to be logged in to post a comment at any "open" Lycos blog.

That's the way I have always known these blogs to be since their inception so can't say you're experiencing anything that shouldn't be.

both are working, I think who ever wants to post have to be an angelfire member, I am not sure about the comments.

It says it is a public blog when I check the settings. I have 2 private blogs for journaling and the others are open/public. I see the differences in the settings and next to the blogs in my blog builder with the icons.
:(
I am finding that I can post a comment reply but cannot put a fresh post.
Thank you.

No I have not opted to moderate before posting and never received any notification that a person put a comment/post in.
Thank you.

Okay. Then a comment sometimes works. Entries from the blog never work for myself or my friends. Thank you for the clarification.
When we try to post an entry we get taken to the member sign in . Even though we are all members it keeps popping up with the sign in page:(
Thank you.

This is so helpful-the difference between an entry and comment! I will put in my newsletters that you can reply to a comment without posting/being an AF member.
At least this takes the strain off of my readers.
I have a new ad campaign(still trying to get back visitors from the initial changes of AF, losing that search engine submission and the? blog directory) starting in June.
I still do not understand why the posting of an entry from the blogs seems so problematic:?

Heather- I tried out your blog again this AM and posted a comment to the same entry I left the link to yesterday just to confirm what I told you last PM. I used IE today though yesterday used my usual Netscape7. Your blog looks fine today in IE and is of normal width. You may want to check that entry in a mozilla based browser to see if anyone else has the same problem with wide pages as I did.

Here's a tip that may help you track comments. That's one feature I'd like to see added for all members of a blog. As the blog administrator or moderator, you can check for the latest comments to any blog from the main blog control panel by clicking on "delete comments". I know that sounds scary lol but it will list all "comments" to your blog in chronological order showing the most recent first. You need not delete comments to read them. Tracking comments was problematic for me as a blog moderator until I figured out that trick. Only the blog administrator or those given advanced permissions in a community blog will be able to follow comments that way.

What I often do after finding a new comment hidden in an ancient entry is to post a new entry that addresses the comment and the poster. That places the issue on the front page of the blog where it will be more readily seen by everyone, at least until more entries push it out of view again.

Two other ways to keep close track of entries of particular interest....

-Entries can be bookmarked from the 'link to this post' link at the bottom of each entry.

-That same link can also be dragged off the page to the desktop in most newer browsers, creating an instant clickable link on the desktop that directly opens the entry in your browser.

Hope that helps

Thanks again for all of your help. I sent out the clarification with my newsletter and posted an explanation of how to add information to the blog(member and non-member) to my three open blogs. The post function at the site still does not work for me-I can never sign in from my blogs to post new entries. But at least visitors know that they can simply click on post your comment to put in information.
