Just checked out my own site and a few others, and it seems to be working correctly.

The ability to designate your own 404 error page is only offered under the subscription account, however.

A list of features and account levels is available at the above link. hope that helps.

the reason i am asking it is the only feature listed in the account that doesn't have able and disable

oh, funny. i guess it doesn't. i suppose we assumed that people would enable/disable it by simply creating/renaming their error404.html file. =)

do you think it actually needs an enable/disable?

also, if you have the files on your system, you can edit them and re-upload to overwrite the old ones.

I am going to try and explain my problem. I am unable to see my images on the slideshow when I go to the page. I am able to see it on preview but not when I save the page. Other people have gone to the page and they can see the image slideshow. I also can see the same slideshow in another website which isnt angelfire.

Can someone help me, Im totally puzzled.

Thank you

did you try to refresh your browser, go to the page and press Ctrl - R at the same time do it more than two or three times. if that doesn';t work let us know. because I can see the images rotating.

My custom error404.html wouldn't show either.

I went to the help page. It told me that I had to create and upload a file with the name "error404.html", which I did.

Then I read:
"What appears on the 404 Error page is up to you. The only requirement is that the finished page must be at least 512 KB in size."

What the heck! That's ridiculously large for an html file! I've got whole directories on my site that aren't that big!

When I checked the properties on the default error404 page, it was less than 30KB. If it can show up, why can't mine?

(My browser is IE and I have Angelfire Neon + 50MB extra space, if that matters at all.)

BTW, how the heck does a person make a 512KB page using just html?

peace

I said above that I had a Angelfire Neon account because that's what it says in my account information. The accounts were called something else back when I signed up a couple years ago.

I just looked at the account comparisons. The Argon account is closer to what I signed up for. I have 125MB of space total.

I also saw that the Neon accounts don't have a customizable error page. That answers part of my question (but not the "at least 256KB" issue.)

Now I have to deal with the billing department...

The 512 KB reference must need an error page of it's own lol. I think they must mean 512 bytes which is the requirement at Tripod, AF's sister site.

xana- I see a missing </td> tag after the slideshow script. Validate your html code and see if the script then works in your browser.

also check the file name for letter case and make sure it's uploaded to the right directory. It belongs in your main directory.

the error page comes with ARGON XENON KRYPTON and free domain if you are paying as much might as well change to any of these plans then you will have you 404 page :) you can make a copy of your front page ( index.html) and re name it error404.html

hi xana, i'm sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with your slideshow. i have checked out the url with both internet explorer and mozilla browsers, and it seems to work.

as a general rule, if it works for many other people and not for you, it's probably either your computer or your ISP that is having a problem. this doesn't sound like an ISP problem, so i suspect your browser. sometimes this is a cache problem, where you can find a menu to remove all offline content and that helps. sometimes you just need to install a clean version.

going forward here, my suggestion is to try another browser. both Mozilla(www.mozilla.org) and Netscape 7+ offer a nice Javascript Console which shows errors and helps in debugging.

the plus side of all this is that your slideshow does work for other people, you just need to see it. you're close!

it's 512b, the 'kb' must be a typo. my original angelfire account (circa '97) was always under 200k, images and all. now.. well, now you don't want to know how much disk space i take up, but i can say it's less than a gig. =)

tangent aside, the 512b thing is not Angelfire/Tripod specific. Internet Explorer has been known to overwrite small 404 responses with it's own "page not found" message. you can make it any size you want, but our saying that helps avoid confusion, and most people don't have problems making an html file over 1k.

as a coder, i know that we specificly enabled error404 for all paying members. fearing i'd made a mistake, i asked our friendly Keeper of the Features, and she said that graph was in the wrong, and she'll update it. i'll let her know about the 512KB thing now, too. =)

also, it looks like you bought the disk-space ad-ons, which is why you have above the normal Neon amount for disk space.

My links are not working because they are automatically linked to angelfire and not my domain name
ie: I put in and it links to glitterwings.com/zine2/glitterwings007/index.html, which doesn't exist. it should link to angelfire.com/zine2/glitterwings007/index.html and then that makes it seem like I don't have a domain name anymore. If you understand what I am saying, I would appreciate help.

I actually have a question and noone to answer it. I'm trying to set up my page and I've used the list that Angelfire provided for the links, but now when I try to do text NEXT to the links it goes below where the links are located. Is there a way to get the text next to the links without having to retype all of the links and information in the editor?

you need to add http://www. to the link
http://www.glitterwings.com/index.html

http://www.glitterwings.com/bored.html

or just

bored.html
