Favicon not working

I followed the instructions on how to replace the default Angelfire icon in the browser's address bar given on page www.angelfire.lycos.com/howto/favicon/index.tmpl

Made the icon, put it in the root directory and added the code snippet between the head and /head.

 Tried viewing with IE8 and firefox. Still only the default Angelfire icon is appearing. Did I miss something?

try using the full http address of the icon

change this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

to this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="https://www.angelfire.com/blog/wpsatschool/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

It should also work if you just remove the forward slash in front of /favicon.ico in the rel shortcut code.

change this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

to this

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

The AF guide needs to be corrected.

You were correct. Was as simple as removing the slash.
