I had a free unregistered version of the active web cam.

and it worked fine on my tripod site. web cams do use bandwidth however. but this one wokred good, but I am on high speed cable connection and that helps.
not sure how it would work on dial-up because you have to upload images....to your site camera..
the software is free...or you can get a registered version but try out the free one first....
