Angelfire Updates
Topic: News

This afternoon, the Angelfire Team released several major (and long-due) changes to the site.

Most obviously, the Angelfire Blog software has been updated to a newer version than that which is running on our sister site, Tripod. This release includes a new flow for making comments and entries, an improved text editor with WYSIWYG editing, and other improvements. This text editor is newer than the one currently on Tripod and should work for Safari users and others that had difficulty there.

We've also updated the MS FrontPage support a bit to make it harder for spammers to attack MS FrontPage messageboards. We're going to try and clean up some of the spam posts that users have complained about, though this may not be right away. (It's a tricky thing to do correctly.)

Domain assignment logic has now been cleaned up and there is now a configuration option for perferred domains, etc. on your My Account pages.

There were some hiccups during the day and some bugs do remain for some blogs. The team is working on delivering a fix ASAP. If you have any issues, you can leave a comment here and I'll make sure your problems are sent right up to our development team.

I HATE this new system. I wanted to throw up a time sensitive post on breaking news before turning in to bed and I CAN'T do it.

It is confusing, The link button seems to be disabled and I usually just type the code in. Can't do that either.

There are some functions that I usually edit for each post to link through technorati and haloscan and I can;t do that now.

Anyway I can turn this off and go back to the old version?

Thanks for reporting these issues.

1) I'm trying to get the "post to future" functionality back into this release. (I hadn't realized that it had disappeared.)

2) The engineers are looking at fixing the ability to post JavaScript. Can you please send what you would try and post (but fail) to jrp34 @ lycos.com and I'll make sure that the team uses that as an example directly.

Thanks again.

Actually, the "post into the future" feature should still be available. (I see it on my blogs.) Can you verify whether that is not working for you? (Or maybe you just didn't see the option.)

Also, there is a button (too small, imho) marked "HTML" in the Blog Entry Post page that should let you post embedded JavaScript, etc. If it doesn't let me know...

I want to try and help you and I want to improve the product. Can you please explain what you are having difficulty doing and I'll do everything I can to work with the team to fix your problem. Unfortunately, you haven't given me enough information to go on yet. :/

Please feel free to send it as an email to the address above.

I sent you an email I also just typed a long responce here but when I previewed it the popup went off the  bottom of the page would not

move and I could not get to the submit bottom.

Ok since the email I discovered the new system is what is messing up my Technorati  Blog reactions link, Odd thing is all the posts before your update work,  inside  Edit posted profiles the link works

it even works in edited post preview.  The reason is that the new software turns the url of the post say

https://www.angelfire.com/ky/kentuckydan/index.blog/1278372/the-us-is-no-longer-number-one  into

<BLOG_URL>index.blog/1278372/the-us-is-no-longer-number-one/"

so all technorati sees is  index.blog/1278372/the-us-is-no-longer-number-one

the link botton doesn't work at all. that would be a  big help.

Things continue to worsen.  My website started hanging and would not load, from the position of where it was stopping I was able to identify a javascript that used to work but now doesn't and remove it.

This is getting frustrating. For a while the option to place images NOT inline with the text did not work at all but I just tested it again and it is functioning now.

Thank you very much for this and for your email. I've sent off your issues with my commentary to the lead developer on this project and we're going to discuss the issues on Monday morning. If you could please also tell us what browser and OS you are using, that would be appreciated. Some of the bugs may be editor bugs on only one platform and we want to make sure we're testing the right ones...

All three browsers show the same symptom ALL the blog reaction links that I put in before the upgrade work none of the ones I posted after work

What is really puzzling is that when I go into the Html editor ALL

of them old and new have the permanent URL changed to for instance

<BLOG_URL>index.blog/1277983/machines-have-learned-how-to-lie/

from what I typed in

https://www.angelfire.com/ky/kentuckydan/CommitteesofCorrespondence/index.blog/1277983/machines-have-learned-how-to-lie/

So why do the old ones work and the new ones don't?

and also WHY do all of them new and old work INSIDE the Blog editor but not on the public page?

Another issue the Html Editor seems to insist on changing

<a href="http://morewhat.com/wordpress/?p=1875">Blog @ MoreWhat.com</a>

to this

<a href="http://morewhat.com/wordpress/?p=1875">http://morewhat.com/wordpress/?p=1875</a>

I figured out how to re-edit it but it's  a mystery to me why it  does that

Well I am not in the nightmare of trying to put up my weekly Open Track Back post.

In the past I would go into Edit Posts copy the code from the previous week, paste that into Create a New Post and then edit for Date  the New Title URL etc and BANG it was up.

No longer thosw were the Golden Days.

I open Edit post copy what;s in there paste it into Create a New Post and end up with a total mess.

SO I tried opening the Html editor on the Old post copy the code there then open the Html Editor in Create a New Post and I ended up with a mess.

All of the paragraph breaks are gone a defined table that was centered is now up against the left hand side looks sick

SO I tried just copying it cold without clicking on edit post Pasted THAT into Create a new Post

 It looked GREAT

So I hit POst and?

ITS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I even tried to Save it as Draft on another try and it is STILL Gone.

Looks great in Create a New Post but when I hit Post or Save as a Draft it drops into some deep hole  and is nowhere.

GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

PS to save any confusion the site in quetion is not my orginal Angelfire Home page but my Angelfire BLOG the URL is on this comment

PPS I can put up something that looks good in the Webshell with a new page

 https://www.angelfire.com/ky/kentuckydan/blog.html

I just cannot do it in the Blog site

Two fixes have gone out this morning. One to fix your problems with the center tag, the other to fix issues with BLOG_URL showing up in your posts.

I'm trying to isolate your other issues into discreet test cases for our engineers to solve.

A third fix is going out right now to fix your cut and paste problem where the entries would disappear. It only shows up when we cut and paste large entries, so we missed that. (We even tested it by making a copy of your blog in our test environment and cut and pasted entries there.)

Thanks JP I realise my blog front page is a heavier load than most but I have been at blogging only a tad over two years and being ranked about   12000 in the world out of some 72 million blogs is a

accomplishment I would like to maintain,  ;-)

My blog will not allow anyone to add a comment. This is very frustrating. I have a paid account and it was working fine until the new changes were made. Just to make sure that I didn't have conflicting code, I created a new blog with only default options selected and the javascrtip:add_comment('whatever') didn't work.

I've visited other blogs hosted on angelfire and had no problems with adding a comment. What's the problem? I sent two trouble tickets and never got a response (just automated response).

This is the blog:

https://www.angelfire.com/trek/ITReality/billbeaton/

This is the test blog:

https://www.angelfire.com/trek/ITReality/Test/

You can easily reproduce the error by going here:
    https://www.angelfire.com/trek/ITReality/billbeaton/index.blog/1280063/still-waiting/
and clicking on "Post Comment".

It fails in IE as well as Firefox. Angelfire error message states: There has been an error with one of our scripts
(/bin/blog/control.ajax/trek/ITReality/billbeaton/)
