FTP or file name error
Topic: HTML Questions

Newbie, pardon the questions.  Have uploaded a simple index.html page and two images to my website--with apparent success.  However, when I go to my website through Angelfire, it just shows the basic "welcome to angelfire here's your page and nothing's on it".

The cartoon penguin greeting.  Not the practice page I'd hoped for.

I used ClassicFTP for Macs.  Unlike prior attempts last year on the PC, this worked.  Angelfire and the account were recognized and found.

Should the default file have been named index.html, or should I have used another name.

Suggestions?  Thanks in advance,

asn, from faire-play

Hi,

Why don't you try to upload the html page and images directly in your webshell, and see how that works.

make sure to upload them to your root directory in angelfire. What is your site address? how did you create your page?

The page was created with very simple html.  (Will be built up later).  It was saved as index.html.

ClassicFTP asked for the address (ftp.angelfire.com), my 'name' (faire-play) and password.  Per its information, all data transferred.

how about try to upload it ( index.html ) from the web shell, to over write the old one, and see if it does the same thing.

all the ftp info are right.

index.html is the default front page.

The question is, is ClassicFTP is over writing the index.html or not.

do you see the images files in the web-shell.

Yes, checked today:  I can see the files in Web Shell.  Only one file labeled index.html.

I even tried to open up the file within webshell--still get the same "white screen avec penguins".

It's a very simple page, but I checked over the html and css syntax.  Everything looks fine--but I'll check again.  There's something about that page Angelfire doesn't like.

Then I'll try uploading the file using angelfire's web builder--then try Classic again.

This is VERY embarrassing! Thanks to everyone for the tips.

first try deleting the index.html file from the webshell and then reupload it through ftp. Some ftp programs will ask if you want to overwrite files. I think dalleh is on the money about your ftp program not overwriting your existing index.html

It is not your fault,

if nothing worked, try this, convert the index.html in the webshell to the advance editor then try to upload,

if that doesn't work. open your own index.html in notepad, copy and paste the code to the index.html in angelfire.
